How it works

How to open a 3MF file online

Open the project, look over every object, then take out the meshes you need.

  1. 1

    Open the 3MF

Drop a 3MF project or model file, including Bambu Studio and OrcaSlicer projects.

  2. 2

    See every object

All objects appear on the plate where they were placed. Rotate and zoom to inspect them.

  3. 3

    Take the meshes out

Download the geometry as STL if you need it in a tool that does not read 3MF.

Features

Why use this 3MF viewer

A look inside slicer projects without installing a slicer.

Private by design

The 3MF is unzipped in your browser and never uploaded, so customer projects stay on your device.

Real size

Read from the file's own unit, whether it was saved in millimeters, inches or microns.

Triangle count

The combined mesh density of every object in the project.

Watertight check

Open and non-manifold edges across the objects, before the slicer complains.

Volume and filament

Total volume and a solid PLA estimate for the whole plate.

Wireframe view

Switch on wireframe to see how finely each object is meshed before the project goes to the printer.

About 3MF

What's inside a 3MF file

3MF was designed for 3D printing from the start. Here is what that means in practice.

A zip of XML files

Rename a .3mf to .zip and you will find the model as XML, often with a thumbnail and slicer settings. It is an open standard from the 3MF Consortium.

The unit is written down

Unlike STL, the model states its unit: micron, millimeter, centimeter, inch, foot or meter. So a 3MF opens at the size it was saved.

Several objects, already placed

One file can hold many objects with their positions on the plate, which is why slicers save whole projects as 3MF.

Slicer extras ride along

Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer and PrusaSlicer add plates, painted colors and print settings. The viewer reads the geometry and ignores the rest.

Common uses

Who uses a 3MF viewer

Slicer projects travel between people, printers and model sites. These are the people who open them.

Bambu and Prusa owners

Look at a project on a laptop or phone that has no slicer installed, before sending it to the printer.

Model downloaders

Check what a 3MF from MakerWorld or Printables contains, and how big it is, before you slice it.

Print farms and services

Open a customer project on any computer to count objects and estimate filament before quoting.

Schools and makerspaces

Check student projects on shared computers where installing a slicer is not an option.

FAQ

3MF viewer questions

Answers about slicers, colors, Bambu projects, privacy and STL export.

How do I open a 3MF file without a slicer?
Drop it onto this page. The 3MF viewer runs in your browser on any computer, tablet or phone.
Does it show colors and print settings?
The viewer shows the geometry of every object. Painted colors and slicer settings stay in the file but are not displayed.
Can it open Bambu Studio projects?
Yes. Bambu Studio and OrcaSlicer keep their models in a standard 3MF structure that the viewer reads.
Is my file uploaded?
No. It is unzipped and read in your browser and never leaves your device.
Can I get STL files out of a 3MF?
Yes. Download STL saves the whole plate; 3MF to STL can also split each object into its own file.
