How it works

How to convert a file with the STL converter

  1. 1

    Drop your files

Add STL, OBJ, GLB, glTF, PLY or 3MF files. Mix formats in one batch if you like.

  2. 2

    Pick the output

Choose STL, OBJ, GLB, 3MF or PLY, and whether each object should get its own file.

  3. 3

    Download

Get one file, or a ZIP for a batch. Sizes stay in millimeters and models stay upright.

Features

Why use this STL converter

Each output is written the way the program that opens it next expects.

STL for slicers

Binary STL with the model resting on the plate, ready for Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, Cura and OrcaSlicer.

OBJ and FBX for 3D apps

OBJ with welded vertices and smooth normals, or binary FBX in centimeters, every object named, for Blender, Unity and Unreal.

GLB for the web

One binary glTF file in meters with a plain gray material, smooth on curves and crisp on flat faces.

3MF for slicer projects

Millimeter units and named objects. Pack several models into one 3MF to open them together in your slicer.

PLY for mesh tools

Compact binary PLY with shared vertices, for MeshLab and other scan and mesh software.

Private, in your browser

Conversion runs on your own computer, so nothing is uploaded, even in a batch of files up to 300 MB each.

Format comparison

What the converter keeps and what it drops

Every format here can hold a triangle mesh, so the shape always survives. Extras that only some formats support do not.

Kept

  • The geometry of every object, triangulated
  • Real size, with glTF meters and 3MF units turned into millimeters
  • Up direction, so models stand upright in slicers and in Blender
  • Object names and positions when you split or pack files

Left behind

  • Textures, colors and materials
  • Animations, rigs and cameras from glTF
  • Print settings stored in 3MF projects
  • Point clouds without faces
FAQ

STL converter questions

Answers about supported formats, size, orientation, cost and privacy.

Which formats can the STL converter read?
STL (binary and ASCII), OBJ, GLB, glTF with embedded data, PLY and 3MF, including Bambu Studio and PrusaSlicer project files.
Is the STL converter free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no file limit, because conversion runs in your browser.
Will my model come out the right size?
Yes. glTF files are in meters and 3MF files can use inches or microns; both are converted to millimeters. OBJ and PLY have no unit, so their numbers are kept as they are. Use Resize longest side if a model arrives too big or too small.
Why does my GLB model stand upright now?
glTF and OBJ use Y as up, while STL, 3MF and slicers use Z. The converter rotates the model so its top stays on top in whichever program opens it next.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Files are read and written on your own computer and never leave your device.
