What ImgToSTL is
ImgToSTL is a set of web tools for 3D printing. It turns pictures into STL files you can slice and print, and it opens, views and converts the 3D files makers pass between programs. Everything runs in a normal web browser, so there is nothing to install.
The tools
Image to STL
Upload a picture, such as a PNG, JPG or WebP, and pick how it becomes 3D:
- Relief: a raised surface built from the brightness of your image, with a flat back. Try it on the homepage, or with PNG to STL, JPG to STL and logo to STL.
- Lithophane: a thin panel that shows your photo when a light shines through it. See the lithophane maker.
- Silhouette: the subject cut out of your image at one even thickness, for cut-outs, cake toppers and stencils. See silhouette to STL.
- Pixel art: one block per pixel, with color layers, as STL or 3MF. See pixel art to STL.
Text to STL
Text to STL makes 3D letters, name plates and stencils from the font you pick, sized in millimeters.
Converters
Converters turn 3MF, OBJ, GLB, glTF, FBX, PLY, DXF, STEP and IGES files into STL, and convert between formats, such as STL to 3MF, STL to OBJ or GLB to OBJ. The STL converter handles batches of files, and the GLB compressor makes GLB files smaller.
Viewers
Viewers open STL, 3MF, GLB, glTF, OBJ, FBX, STEP, IGES and DXF files, so you can check a model's size and look for holes before you print. Start with the 3D viewer or the STL viewer. The scale calculator works out model scales and the percentage to enter in your slicer.
AI image to 3D (opening soon)
Image to 3D model will turn one photo into a full model, sides and back included, so it prints as a figurine. It is not open yet.
How it works
- Your files stay on your device. Relief, lithophane, silhouette, pixel art and Text to STL build the model in your browser. Converters and viewers read and write files in your browser too. Your images and models are not uploaded.
- The preview is free. You can try every setting and see the 3D result without an account.
- Credits are only used for image based STL downloads. Each STL download from relief, lithophane or silhouette costs 2 credits. For pixel art, each model costs 2 credits, and its STL and 3MF count as one download. Downloading the same model again, with the same image and settings, in the same visit is not charged twice. When you download, only the credit check talks to our server.
- New accounts get 10 free credits, enough for 5 STL downloads, with no card needed.
- Converters and viewers are free. All converters, the GLB compressor, every viewer, the scale calculator and Text to STL need no account and no credits.
- AI models will cost 25 to 35 credits per generation (Basic 25, Pro 30, Ultra 35) when AI image to 3D opens. It is the one tool that sends your image to a server, and the image is used only to build your model.
Plans and one-time credit packs are listed on the pricing page.
Who it is for
ImgToSTL is for people with a 3D printer who want a quick path from a picture or a file to a print: hobbyists making lithophanes, signs, keychains and gifts, and makers who move models between design programs and slicers. Sizes are set in millimeters, and the STL files open in any slicer, including Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, OrcaSlicer and Cura. Models you create are yours to print and sell; please only upload images you have the right to use.
